Eastern To Fly the Flag For U-CAN
February 2006
Regional airline Eastern Airways is the latest organisation to put its energies behind UCAN, the Aberdeen based charity set up last year to raise awareness of urological cancers such as prostate, bladder and kidney among both men and women.

Eastern, which operates direct services to ten destinations from Aberdeen, enjoys a very strong affinity with the Granite City, and the company’s Scotland Director Graeme Ross is delighted to assist with what he believes is an extremely worthwhile cause. “With a target of two million pounds to be raised over the next three years in order to create facilities to enable pioneering research to be undertaken, a real challenge has been issued to the local community and hopefully we can play an active part in assisting to meet that challenge.”

“With thousands of passengers travelling throughout our network every week, we are currently investigating the different ways that we can help, both in raising the profile and raising funds for the charity and I’m sure our staff will come up with some really quirky and innovative methods of contributing.”

Bryan Huxford, Chairman of Eastern, added. “We have been working with the people at Emmerdale for some time and heavily involved with their Extravaganza at Inchmarlo which has announced that the proceeds of June’s event will go to UCAN.”

Eastern Airways has enjoyed a busy start to the New Year with the first ever direct service between Aberdeen and Stornoway being successfully launched on the 9th January. A new four times each weekday service between Newcastle and London City commenced on Monday 30th January while the company has just announced that it will operate between Southampton and the Isle of Man from March.
